the movie garden:

scary plants in the movies

September 29 to November 24

10:00am to 4:00pm*

Flamingo Gardens unveils an original and unique new exhibit inspired by nature’s fiercest and most intriguing garden wonders and the eerie legends that they inspire.

Created by Flamingo Gardens Horticulture Department, the exhibit is a deliciously diabolical exploration of the darker side of nature set in a garden of classic Hollywood scary movie themes. This is a fun-for-all-ages, educational horticulture and science exhibit to pique your interest and challenge your perceptions of the plant world.

Take a self-guided tour of Flamingo Gardens tropical arboretum to identify real life scary plants in Flamingo Gardens botanical collection. Then step into the Gallery where intrepid adventurers will discover a world of amazing plants and sinister specimens, and the connections they have to Hollywood films. Find out the hair-raising and bone-chilling stories of the plant kingdoms’ most fearsome foliage.

The Movie Garden entices explorers to be inquisitive while learning about botany, history, and the effects that plants have on people, traditions and culture, now and in our past. See up close the surprising strategies that plants have adapted for survival, protection and defense. Scary Plants? You won’t look at your backyard the same way again.
